Mukesh Ambani, the richest person in India, has been a pioneer in bringing technology to the masses through his company Reliance Jio. He has launched affordable 4G phones and internet services that have reached millions of customers across the country. Now, he is gearing up to launch a new 5G phone that could be the cheapest in the market. The phone is expected to be unveiled by the Reliance Industries chairman at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this year.
The phone has not been officially announced yet, but a leaked image of the alleged Jio 5G phone was shared by tipster Abhishek Yadav on Twitter, giving a glimpse of its design. The leak also revealed some of the phone's specifications, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ SoC processor, a dual rear camera setup with a 13MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor, an 8MP front camera, a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, and a 6.5-inch IPS LCD HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is said to have 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a microSD card and 4GB of LPPDDR4X RAM from Samsung. The phone's codename is reportedly "Ganga".
The Jio 5G phone could be a game-changer for the Indian telecom industry, as it could make 5G technology accessible to more people at a lower cost. The phone's price and availability are yet to be confirmed, but more details are likely to emerge in the coming months.
