Location
Belize is a country located on the northeast coast of Central America. It is bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Guatemala to the west and south. It also shares a water boundary with Honduras to the southeast.
History
Belize was originally inhabited by the Maya people. The Spanish arrived in the 16th century, but they were unable to establish a permanent colony. In 1862, Belize became a British colony. It gained independence in 1981.

Belize is a parliamentary democracy. The capital is Belmopan. The official language is English. The currency is the Belize dollar.
