ALGERIA

ALGERIA
People's Democratic Republic of Algeria
Algeria is a large country in North Africa, with a coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Western Sahara and Morocco.
It covers an area of 2.38 million square kilometers, making it the largest country in Africa and the tenth-largest in the world.
Algeria has a diverse landscape that includes mountains, plateaus, deserts, and oases.
It is home to about 44 million people, most of whom live in the northern coastal region

Algeria has a long and rich history that spans thousands of years.
It was inhabited by ancient Berber peoples who interacted with Phoenician, Roman, Vandal, Byzantine and Arab invaders.
It became part of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and was colonized by France in the 19th century.
Algeria fought a bloody war of independence from 1954 to 1962, which resulted in its sovereignty and the emergence of a socialist republic.
Algeria faced political and economic challenges in the following decades, as well as a civil war in the 1990s. Today,
Algeria is a constitutional democracy with a multi-party system

Algeria is a North African country with a population of about 44 million and a land area of 2.38 million square kilometers.
It is a semi-presidential republic with a multi-party system and a bicameral parliament.
Algeria is a major oil and gas producer and exporter, but it also faces economic and social challenges such as unemployment, poverty, inequality and corruption. Algeria has experienced political unrest and protests since 2019, when former president Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned after 20 years in power amid mass demonstrations demanding democratic reforms.
The current president is Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who was elected in December 2019 in a disputed vote boycotted by the opposition
Algeria currency is the Algerian dinar, which has the code DZD and the symbol دج. It is divided into 100 centimes, but these are no longer used due to their low value.
The dinar was introduced in 1964, replacing the Algerian new franc at par. The dinar is issued by the Bank of Algeria, the central bank of the country.
The dinar is mainly used for domestic transactions, as Algeria has strict currency controls that limit the exchange and transfer of foreign currencies.
The dinar’s exchange rate is determined by the market, but it is influenced by the price of oil and gas, which are Algeria’s main exports
Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 dinars. The 1 and 2 dinars coins are rarely used, as prices are rounded to the nearest 5 dinars.
The 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 dinars coins are bimetallic. The coins show the emblem of Algeria and the values in Arabic numerals.
Banknotes: 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 dinars.
The banknotes show various historical and cultural themes of Algeria, such as monuments, landscapes, figures and symbols.
The banknotes have security features such as watermarks, holograms and microprinting
